Green Rewards
27 September 2008

Get more for your money with this Green Rewards loyalty program. Finally a green version, earn points while shopping online in both mainstream stores and green stores, then redeem your points in their online shop by purchasing green products, offsetting your carbon footprint or donating to charity.

This should be particularly useful in the run up to Christmas - it shows a number of gift ideas and if you start early enough and be organised, which I am, of course, planning to be, then you can build up enough points to buy or put towards other gifts. Sounds like a plan to me.

Found a great website that sells quality replica designer handbags - all of them vegan friendly as well. They sell Chloe,Chanel,Louis Vuitton plus lots more and I can really recommend the service and selection.
It's difficult to find even replica handbags that are not made of leather.

The majority of the bags are made from synthetic materials with the leather look bags made of a PU material.
Check it out now at wwww.handbagsngladrags.com
It's a real find

There is an Early Day Motion in parliament which is looking to ban the testing of household products on animals. PETA wants everyone to email their MP to encourage them to sign and therefore put pressure on government to stop this meaningless suffering. Check out PETA's page for some more information, a ready made email and an MP finder. Please do your bit to help.

Sun Block
13 May 2008

I had a look around the vegan and green shopping sites today to find the best place to buy sunscreen. My top choice is Yaoh Organic Hemp Seed Oil Sunblock from The Green Shop. This lotion comes in SPF 15 or 30 and protects against UVA and UVB rays. The 240ml bottle retails at £9.95 with second class delivery at 94p. More information about the product is available at www.yaoh.co.uk. It does not seem to be water resistant so you might like to try Jason Sun Block available from The Vegan Store which is priced from £7.95 with postage at £3.50.

Fun Game Feeds Hungry Whilst Increasing Vocabulary
9 March 2008

I found a really simple but highly addictive game today. The game is to pick the meaning of a word from a list of four possibilities. Each time you get the correct answer Poverty.com will donate 20 grains of rice to hungry poor people through the United Nations World Food Program. When you get three correct answers in a row the difficulty increases to keep things interesting. The rice is paid for by companies that display rotating banner ads at the bottom of the page. Even the ads have an ethical bent so you can't really go wrong with this game. Give it a go at www.freerice.com.

E-Day Failure
27 February 2008

E-Day, the initiative that aimed to show how a large number of people making a number of small changes would have a cumulative effect on the total power use of the country, failed to do so. In fact the UK's energy consumption was up 0.1% on the norm. Although this initiative did not make a big impact there were tens if not hundreds of people who decreased their energy usage and, if they keep it going, something will have been achieved. I imagine the main reason for the failure was insufficient publicity so I have decided to do my bit by publicizing a similar initiative called Earth Hour. Please join me by turning off all your lights and as many other electrical appliances as possible on March 29th 2008 between 8 and 9pm. Earth Hour 2008 is a global initiative which follows a successful event in Sydney in 2007. Let's try and make this one a success - tell all your friends and you can even encourage businesses to join.

Vegan Cookery Shows
27 February 2008

For those of you who miss watching cookery shows I have found several around the internet that you might be interested in.

A new one to me is
Tiny Vegan Kitchen which has interesting recipes, videos on YouTube and a cute guy called KK.

A much larger collection of recipes and videos is available on veginity.com also on YouTube. You have to be a member to see all the video's at a cost of $10 a month but there a plenty of free ones as well.

There are many vegan recipe videos on YouTube for you to check out. If you find a series you like please let me know so I can share it with everyone.

Beginning of the End for Animal Testing
15 February 2008

Animal Aid is calling a recent statement from the US government "an Historic Breakthrough" in ending animal testing. The US government has laid out a five year plan to phase out animal tests in its laboratories replacing them with computer models and cell cultures. This is fantastic news which we really need to make the UK government and the EU take notice of.
